AI Tools for Business: 7 Tips IfΒ  You're Not a Tech Person

What you'll learn in this post:

🧠 The mental shift that makes AI feel like a helpful team member β€” not a scary tech tool

πŸŽ™οΈ How to train AI on your voice so it actually sounds like you

βœ… Why your non-technical background is secretly your biggest advantage with AI

If you've been watching other business owners use AI tools for business and thinking, "That's great for them, but I'm just not a tech person" β€” this post is for you. As an Emmy Award winner who helps entrepreneurs use video and AI to grow without burning out, I can tell you with full confidence: you don't need a tech background to make AI work for you. Watch the video below and then keep reading β€” I'm walking you through all seven tips right here.

Watch the Video Below:

Here's what I've learned after working with hundreds of entrepreneurs: the business owners getting the biggest results from AI right now aren't developers. They're coaches, consultants, and service providers β€” people just like you. So let's get into it.

Tip 1

Stop Thinking of AI as a Tech Tool β€” Think Team Member

This mental shift changes everything. Seriously. When most people hear "AI tools for business," their brain immediately goes to code, prompts, and complicated setup. I get it β€” that's what most content online makes it look like.

But here's the truth. The AI tools that are actually useful for business owners aren't technical at all. They're conversational. You talk to them like a really smart assistant who never sleeps, never complains, and has read basically everything ever written.

Think about what's on your to-do list right now. What do you absolutely dread? Writing emails? Coming up with content ideas? Turning your YouTube video into a blog post after you've already done all the filming? What if you could just hand that off? That's what AI actually does. Once you make that mental shift from "tech thing" to "team member," everything gets a whole lot less scary.

Tip 2

Start With One Tool and One Job

Just pick one AI tool and give it one job. That's it. Do that one thing until it feels easy. I recommend starting with Claude and setting up a custom morning brief.

Here's what mine looks like every morning:

πŸ“– A Bible text specifically for entrepreneurs about courage, motivation, and purpose

πŸ“… A summary of my calendar and emails β€” plus drafted email replies

πŸ“° Industry news to keep me up to date

πŸ’‘ Every Monday, trending video topic ideas for the week

Having Claude give you a morning brief makes AI feel like a real work assistant fast. And honestly? It's the moment most people go from "I am not a tech person" to "holy cow, I can actually do this." Start small. One tool, one job. Build confidence and then add the next thing.

Tip 3

You Don't Need Perfect Prompts β€” Just Be Specific

There's a whole world of "prompt engineering" online that makes AI sound like it requires some special technical skill. That misconception keeps so many people from even trying. However, that was much more true when AI first came out β€” it's not the case anymore.

All you need to do is be detailed and specific. No technical language required. In fact, you can even ask AI to help you write a better prompt, and then paste that prompt right back into the chat. I love that trick. Go back and rewatch that section in the video if you want to see how I describe it β€” it's really that simple.

Tip 4

Train Your AI on Your Voice and Watch the Generic Problem Disappear

This is the number one objection I hear about AI tools for business: "I tried it once and it sounded nothing like me. It was robotic and generic and so obviously AI." But here's the thing β€” that's not an AI problem. It's a setup problem.

Think about it this way. If you hired a brand-new copywriter, handed them your business card, and said "write my emails" β€” with zero other context β€” what would you get? Generic content. Because they don't know you yet. AI works the same way.

Because of this, I teach my students inside my AI Video Team program something called the AI Playbook. It's a brand voice document you create one time. You tell AI who you are, who your audience is, how you talk, what words you never use, and what your brand sounds like. Then every script, every email, every social caption starts sounding like you β€” not a corporate press release.

As a result, this is the moment every single time when my students go from "AI isn't for me" to "wait, I actually love this."

Tip 5

Use AI for What Happens After You Show Up β€” Not Instead of Showing Up

I know there's a fear in the entrepreneur community that AI will replace the human element of your business. But AI is not here to replace you. AI is here to handle what happens after you show up.

Your story, your expertise, your way of seeing the problem β€” that's why people buy from you instead of someone else. That cannot be automated. And it shouldn't be. But everything that happens after you film a video? That's just labor.

For example, here's what AI can handle after you film one video:

πŸ“ Writes your blog post from the video

πŸ“§ Drafts your promotional email to your list

πŸ“± Creates your social media captions

βœ‚οΈ Generates your short-form clips from your long-form content

In my experience, all of that used to take me or a virtual assistant literally 20 hours every single week. Now it happens automatically in minutes. The creative work that actually matters β€” that's still me on camera, being a real human.

Tip 6

Don't Wait Until You Feel Ready β€” Build While You're Learning

I know you. You're a planner. You like to fully understand something before you commit. You want to feel confident before you press record or launch a new tool. Am I right?

However, with AI, that instinct will keep you stuck indefinitely. AI tools are evolving so fast that by the time you feel ready, the landscape has already changed. The people getting results right now started before they felt ready and figured it out as they went.

You will learn more in three days of actually using an AI tool than in three weeks of watching YouTube videos about AI. Start small. Give yourself permission to just go for it.

Tip 7

Your Non-Technical Background Is Actually Your Advantage With AI Tools

There's often a quiet belief underneath everything for non-technical entrepreneurs that says, "The tech people have a head start and I can never catch up." I want to push back on that really hard.

Because what I've noticed from working with hundreds of students is that entrepreneurs without a technical background often get better results from AI tools than those who come in with one. Here's why.

You know your business. You know your audience. You know exactly what you need and what doesn't fit. When you sit down with an AI tool, you aren't trying to impress it or show off technical knowledge. You're just asking it to solve a real problem you actually have. That means you're being productive and getting work done that matters.

Your business makes a positive impact in this world. And AI tools for business exist to help you make that impact on more people β€” without burning out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which AI tool should a non-technical business owner start with?

I recommend starting with Claude. It's conversational, easy to use, and a great place to set up a morning brief that summarizes your calendar, emails, and industry news. Starting with one tool and one job builds confidence fast β€” and that momentum is everything.

Why does AI-generated content sound so generic and robotic?

An untrained AI sounds generic because it doesn't know you yet. The fix is to give it context β€” your voice, your audience, your style, and the words you never use. I teach this inside my AI Video Team program through something called the AI Playbook. Once you train AI on your voice, the output actually sounds like you.

Will AI replace the human element of my personal brand business?

Absolutely not β€” and it shouldn't. AI is here to handle what happens after you show up, not instead of you. Your story, expertise, and personality are irreplaceable. AI simply takes the labor-intensive tasks β€” blog posts, emails, social captions, short clips β€” off your plate so you can show up more, not less.

You've got everything you need to get started with AI tools for business β€” even without a tech background. Pick one tool, give it one job, and build from there. I promise you, the confidence comes fast once you just begin.
